今回の例も興味深く、考えさせらる例文でした。
特に、例文の2番目が自分にとっては難しく、
and then scanning the "Enter" command bar code [can be selected] (when the appropriate option is displayed.)
という解釈で正しいでしょうか。

英<->和翻訳の場合、語順が異なるので、内容を重視するか語順を重視するかで、翻訳は違ってくると思います。
本件の対応特許は、特表平9-505419ですが、翻訳担当者は、ご指摘の箇所については、語順を重視されたのではないかと想像します。内容が合っているかどうかについては、対応特許で確認して頂ければ幸いです。
なお、"and then"を含む例文は近日中に投稿する予定です。
